Alexander Blair

There is no record of Alexander in the Old Parish Records of the Church of Scotland but The Buchlyvie Associate Session Baptisms (some marriages) 17521785 lists Alexander as the son of John Blair and Margaret McLuckie, baptized on June 15, 1755 in Kippen, Scotland.

Alexander is mentioned several times in the Robert Blair Letters:

Ltr dated May 13, 1786 from John Blair at Arnmore
I got a letter from Alexander a littel before I received yours that he was at Portsmouth serving with one doctor

Ltr dated March 5, 1790 from John Blair at Arnmore
Your brother Alexander the last we heard from him was about three years ago when he was in Liverpool in England.

Ltr not dated (after July 1791) from John Blair at Arnmore
Alex is at Liverpool in England and is married there.

Ltr dated February 17, 1794 from John Blair at Arnmore
We got a letter from Alex about three years since and that he was maired in Liverpool.

Ltr dated March 9, 1807 (or 09) from Joseph Blair in Stirling
Alexander is in Liverpool he keps a publick house and doing very well.



Robert Blair, son of John Blair and Margaret McLuckie was the first Blair in this line to emmigrate to America. In 1785 he and his wife Margaret McLuckie settled in Barnet Vermont.

From 1786 through 1818, Robert and Margaret received 30 letters from family and friends back in Scotland. These letters were preserved by the Vermont Historical Society. We have digital copies of these letters and are in the process of transcribing them.
