I have just come across this site while looking for background information on
Hugh Black of Auchenfoyle Farm, who died on 18 April 2001. He became a leading
figure in the educational field, was a co-founder and leader of the Struthers
Memorial group of churches, and wrote 23 religious books.
I understand that he is distantly related to me through my mother (born
Letitia Bingham Orr).
I also have available, if anyone is interested, a PDF File copy of his
obituary and of a rather faded Genealogy Tree of the Blair Family of Kilmacolm,

I'd be interested to know which member of the Blair family owned one of my
family members. I wrote several years ago and I received a very rude reply from
a Blair family member who informed me that no member of the Blair family ever
owned slaves,,,,but how untrue as we are black....I was only attempting to find
out some historical background to pass on to my children at the time I was not
even trying to find out when next family reunion was show up and imbarass
anyone. I got the impression that I was after some monies or some family
inheritance....So to put your minds at ease, I am only inquiring for the
historical value,,,I earn over $100,00 a year I am not after any estates or
monies. If you can help it would be greatly be appreaciated as its very

What a wealth of information you have on your site. I am envious. I have come up
against a brick wall with my BLAIR ancestry. My ggrandfather was born in
Trivandrum, India in about 1864. On his marriage certificate he names Thomas
CRONING and Marian BLAIR as his parents. I cannot find any information on them
at all. They called themselves Anglo- Indians so there must have been and
English marriage somewhere. Could anyone help me or at least point me in the
right direction. Maybe her father was an English soldier.

Found out about the Clan Blair Society at the Sottish Festival in Costa Mesa,
California on May 27th, 2001. A good time was had by all! If you have never
atttended a Highland Games Festival, it is a must! This website offers a wealth
of information and will be diving right into it very soon, thanks! After
traveling to Scotland two years ago, I have been very interested in searching my
ancestory. As many of you know, it takes a fair amount of work and I am only
beginning. The males in my family, like so many before us have all the
traditional names like Robert, William, John, etc. running through the last
three generations. My father is Robert Earl (b.4/4/21), his father was Earl.
Have some limited information from a cousin of Robert's named Alma also in
California tracing back to Virginia but that is about all; it is a place to

My gg grandparents arrived in Port Chalmers Dunedin NZ 1857 aboard the vessel
George Cannning. from London 97 days. GGGfather Robert Blair of Dudley in the
North of England married Agness Dick. The Dick family was connected with the tea
trade as was Robert. They had 8 children James was lost at sea and Janet died in
childhood, but the other 6, William, Alexander, Robert, Agnes, Margaret, and

My ggggrandfather was Alexander A. Blair. He was born in Brandon, Vermont on

I am just starting doing my family tree. After going to Williamsburg Va and

very interesting site...my father, David Blair, born Dumbarton Scotland 1928...I
am the last of that family line. his father, another 'Son of the Rock' was a
ship caulker on the Clyde shipyards in the thirties...some say he was deaf
through operating the steam hammers....so when he was collecting firewood from
the railway trackside during the 'thirties depression...he apparently didn't
hear the train that hit and killed him!...i guess that was about 1933...left
four kids...John,Duncan, David and Margaret...mother died soon afterwards!...so

Thank you for this marvelous website. Your information is comprehensive and of
great assistance to me just reading a portion of your information on this first
visit. My Mary Blair is an anomoly but perhaps it may assist others in filling
in a loophole in turn will assist me in confirming my growing evidence that my
Scottish families were transported then returned with other transported families
to Scotland. They returned again the 1830's to US but my Walkers returned to
Scotland once again 1850's - the women that is.
I am researching Stirling and Kippen/Buchlyvie which is the birth place of a
Dick family member 1787 who died in the family plot in Jamaica, Ocho Rios, St
Anna Parish 1818. This family married Walkers who married Kays who married
Blairs. Later married Ross and Marshalls and all of these families appear to
have forfeited land to the Crown due to Jacobite involvements. My Robert Kay's
father is Robert Kay and mother Isobel Ure circa 1750's. An ancient monument in
Stirling commemorates a 1600 covenenter martyr named Ure. The name is not
common. But for this family to marry Blair is significant. The marriage of 1802
is documented but there is not a matching birth.

George and William Blair immigrated to SC in March of 1766 to receive bounty
land as poor protestants in Belfast Township, Granville County which later
became Old 96, Edgefield. Have copies of land grants. These Blair's went from SC

Very interesting site, you put alot of effort into it. I have been searching my
Blair family for some time and always end up at a wall. My dad`s parent`s were
George H. Blair and Lillian LaValley of New York. I have found relatives that
were in accidents, car or fires but still have no info on George`s parent`s. If

I am getting frustrated and I hope someone out there can help me. My mother is a
Blair.Her father was Robert Lee Blair and We believe was born in Mangum,OK. His
wife IS Benny Lucille Blair(they thought they were having a boy!!)She is my
Grandmother and has for years refused us any info on Grampa Blairs
lineage...why? I don't know. Benny Lucilles maiden name was O'Daniel. Roberts
fathers name was Lonzo Leeland Blair and his wife was Jenny Elizabeth Howe..they
lived in Mangum OK and had 5 (?) children,the youngest were twins.The story goes
that she took the twins and disapeared never to be heard from again.My mother
believes that they came from Georgia,she also has a painting of my
g-grandparents and they are both on beautiful horses and she is sitting side
saddle.She has the most beautiful hair,it is flaming red and curley and g-grampa
Lonzo Blair is wearing a solders uniform and my family says it looks more blue

I only recently found out that I had Blairs in my ancestry. So nice to see such
a full web site!
These Blairs came to America from Ireland.
My gr-gr-gr-gr grandfather (on my mother's side) was John Billingsley born on
August 17, 1774, in St. Marys, Maryland, and died on September 19, 1844, in
Warren County, Kentucky. He married MARTHA BLAIR who was born on February 14,
1776, in North Carolina, and died in 1860 in Johnson County, Texas. Martha’s
father was JOHN BLAIR who was born in 1742 in North Carolina and died in 1778 in
Guilford County, North Carolina. He was married to Jean ? in about 1763 in North
Carolina. John’s father was also named JOHN BLAIR. He was born in 1700 in
Ireland, and died before February 1772. John’s wife was named Mary, and she
was born in Ireland in 1702 and died in North Carolina in 1770.

A relative in Scotland gave me R D Blairs' email address. I would like to find
more information about James Ewing Blair b22-11-1837 Greenock Scotland, married
Isabella Murphy 31-12-1861 Their son James b1866 married Janet Orr on 1-7-1892
Janet Orrs' parents were Rachel Black (Auchenfoyle) and John Orr who had 9 sons

My brother, Tony Blair (no,not that one), who lives in Canterbury, England, and
I have been working on our family history and tree for some time now, Tony
significantly longer than I. Totally we have over 1300 names researched and
confirmed. One limb of our tree goes back to the early 1500's in England and
includes a VC (Victoria Cross, Britains highest award for bravery) recipient and
a Royal Navy Admiral who fought with Nelson in the Napoleonic war. On the Blair
side we are stuck in the early to mid 1700's with Richard Blair who married
Sarah Mitchenor in New Shoreham, Sussex England on June 21st, 1753. We have not
been able to trace the birth of Richard anywhere in southern England and we are
now assuming that he was probably born in Scotland possibly in the Perth area,
and went to England after the downfall of Bonnie Prince Charlie. Anyone that has
any link to a Richard Blair and/or Sarah Mitchenor in the New Shorham area,
Sussex area of England, and has any detail of Richard's ancestry, we would
appreciate hearing from them. Likewise any information we can share we would be
happy to do so. Most of our research has in fact been done by my brother in
England and I have played the roll of putting the information in to a family
tree maker programme, with some internet research thrown in. We look forward to
hearing from somebody, either with information that may help us, or requesting
information from us that may assist them.

The site looks quite impressive.
I have been looking for information on my gr grand-father Samuel "Sam"
Blar and his wife Catherine B. "Mary" Harris. Sam was killed in the
Civil War leaving a widow and only child, William Samuel Blair. "Mary"
remarried at some point to a Cannon, but there was no further issue. Census
records indicate that the two gr grandparents were born in Georgia. W. S. Blair
shows to be born in Harris County, GA. My father and most of his brothers and
sisters were born in Talbot County, GA. But the last two were born in Van Zandt
County, TX.

I found this Site at the BLAIR genforum, genealogy.com. My great grandmother was
a Blair. My grandfather was named Blair, as was my father and my eldest son. I

I am very impressed with this web site. My late Aunt (member of DAR) passed
along quite a bit of geneology information to me before she died. Unfortunately
my information stops in Scotland with a James Blair. I have filled out the

Our lineage begins in Scotland with James Blair who fathered Hugh Blair, who

Well your site is very good but seems to concentrate only on Blairs in the USA
and not two much on where they came from i.e. scotland or ireland. my family
emigrated from wogtownshire(Garlieston) to New Brunswick( Moncton) in the late
