Find your site very intersting. Personally can't trace my roots beyond great-grandfather Samuel BLAIR (b: abt 1840; d: by 1865) who was killed in the Civil War. Grandfather William Samuel Blair was an only child. Even though his mother later remarried there were no more children.

My oldest grandfather that I am sure of was George Blair of Bellville, Illinois who was born about 1760. His son James (1800) came to Texas in 1837. He faught in the Black Hawk Indian War in Illinois and later faught the indians in Texas as a Captain under General Tarrant in east Texas. We do not know George's father's name but suspect it may have been William. Would appreciate any help!!!

Just hoping to find some useful information to help me find other Blairs who may be related to me. I have gotten stuck with my great grandfather Robert Blair whom I think was born in Nova Scotia but the family stories are quite sketchy. I know that he was killed in an accident in either Wisconsin or Minnesota. He was a lumberjack, I think, and killed by a tree...so the story goes. Also, he was known as Sir Robert. Greetings to all from the Blairs in Japan My name is Robert Edward Blair. I am the seventh consecutive Robert Blair, dating from Robert Blair I who was born and died in Bedminster, Somerset County New Jersey and was married to Eleanor Sutphen of the well known Guisbert Sutphen family. Robert was born in 1749 and died in 1800. Robert was a quite distinguished man in his area. By trade he was a judicial scrivener, one who produces official documents. He had been a Captain in the American Revolution. Later in life he seemed to have been a county sheriff and a member of the New Jersey State Legislature. He was known as Robert Blair Esquire. He seems to have died suddenly and in the prime of life as he left no will and had fathered thirteen children, the youngest of whom was less than two years old. I believe Robert to have been an elder brother of RUNNEL Blair from whom many BSGR and Clan Blair members are descended, although I have know of no concrete links. There are similar names on both sides of the family. I would guess that the father's name had been JOHN, as the eldest son seems to have been named John. In those times it seemed to have been a tradition to name the first son after the paternal grandfather and the second son after the maternal. The eldest daughter seemed to have been named after the maternal grandmother. Certain sources indicate that the Somerset Blairs had immigrated from New England around the 1720's. Sources also imply that the family had immigrated from Scotland? shortly before that. However they seemed to have lived in New Hampshire of Vermont. Another Blair family, that of John (Insley) Blair later of steel and railroad fame also lived in the area. This family is connected with Blairstown, New Jersey. I know of no connection between these two families. After Robert I died, the Robert Blair line moved on to Ohio, Indiana and then to Lee County, Illinois where my grandfather, Robert Blair V (1887-1979) and great grandfather Robert Blair IV (1847-1941) were born. Around 1890 the family moved to the Long Beach area of California. Our family has mostly lived in California since that time. A John Blair, a younger brother of Robert IV moved his family to Oklahoma, where a sizeable number of descendants now live. Perhaps some of you will read my "dissertation" and say "That's my family." My grandmother was a Blair (Nettie Bell Blair May - b. 7-4-1887, d. 11-6-1920). I know very little about my father's side of the family. This information was dug up by a cousin of mine (Nettie Lamb Dworsky) who is also interested in our family history, and has more time than me to research. My grandmother's parents were Texas W. Blair (b. 12-1850, d. 9-1922) & Harriet Blair (b. 10-1855, d. ??). Texas' father was Hiram Blair (b. 1811 in Arkansas). Texas W. Blair was born in Grayson County, Texas, and had 12 brothers and sisters. Texas W. Blair is buried in Caddo Cemetary, Joshua (Johnson County) Texas, with a second wife Willie O. Blair (Harriet is presumed buried in East Texas somewhere). Texas and Harriet Blair had 4 children - Nettie Bell Blair May (my grandmother), Henry E. (Boss) Blair (b. 8-1877, d. 1957, buried in Coley Creek (Shrader) Cemetery-San Jacinto County near Shepherd, Texas - Ednie Blair (b. 1876, d. ??) and Charles H. Blair (b. 1880, d. ??). My grandmother married my grandfather, William Pleasant May (b. 3-20-1883, d. 8-7-1919) on 6-8-1905 and had 5 children: Julia Lizzibeth May, b. 4-19-1907, d. 4-26-1907 - William May, b. 11-9-1908, d. 4-26-1909 - Baby boy May, b. 12-5-1909, d. 12-5-1909, Plas May (my father) b. 11-15-1911, d. 10-1961, Albert Thomas May, b. 3-1-1916, d. 1968, and Mary Lena May Lamb, b. 3-9-1919, d. 1998. My grandfather, William Pleasant May was a teamster for a logging company, and they lived in Milvid, Texas (now a ghost town) near present day Romayor, Texas. They are both buried in unmarked graves somewhere near Romayor, possibly on the Daniel Plantation Ranch. Would love for anyone to shed some more light on this side of the family?

My Blairs are from KY until they moved to MO early 1900s. My ggrandfather sold a coal mine in KY to move to MO. He was a farmer in MO which I think he tried to do in KY. His parents were John Blair and Melinda McKnight. I have them back to 1502 in Scotland. Some did move to Ulster, Ireland. Great site! Hope to find information on my family in Scotland and Ireland. I know they originated in Scotland, went to Ireland, have found them in Mass, U.S. before they re-located to Nova Scotia, Canada. My great grandfather after marriage then went back to Boston where my grandfather was born. Eventually they all ended up in Alberta, Canada. This is where I am. The Blairs are a travelling lot!
