I am searching for two McLuckies, both Margarets, both most likely from Kippen
Stirlingshire and both married BLAIRs.
The first Margaret McLuckie married John BLAIR (my gr-gr-gr-gr grandfather) Jan
15, 1749. John and Margaret had 6 children we know of: John-1750, Robert-1755,
James-1759, Joseph-1761, Peter-1763, and Janet-1764.
Robert BLAIR, son of John and Margaret, married Margaret McLuckie, April 17,
1784, in Greenock, Renfrew. A few days after the wedding they sailed to America
and settled in Barnet VT.
At the Vermont Historical Society we discovered a substantial collection of
letters from Robert's family, and Margaret's brother in Scotland written to them
in Vermont. These letters date back to 1786. They shed invaluable information on
the family. The letters from Robert's father John all came from Arnmore.
From these letters we have pieced together the following:
John Blair & Margaret McLuckie were born about 1720. John died in Dec 1799,
Margaret died in Dec 1788.
Robert Blair was born abt 1754, Margaret was born abt 1753. It appears that
Margaret had brothers Robert, John and Andrew, and sisters Janet and Elizabeth.
A letter from her brother Robert in 1786 mentions that brother John is in South
Carolina.
If anyone has information on either of these lines of McLuckie I would
appreciate hearing from you.
I have
download over 700 McLuckie births/christenings and 400 McLuckie marriages in
Scotland between 1701 - 1860 from the LDS-FHC OPRs. These are ALL the McLuckie
births/christenings and marriages listed in the LDS-FHC OPRs and can be found
