"Francis Preston Blair and his
two sons, Francis Preston and Montgomery, are representatives of a
longer period of influence in American politics than any other family
except the Adams family." Francis Preston Blair (1791-1876)
supported Andrew Jackson. His sons ". . . joined the Free Soil
party in 1848 and later were leaders in founding the Republican party.
Montgomery Blair, as Postmaster General under Lincoln, modernized the
postal system, and Frank Blair was distinguished as a General in the
Union Army."

Genealogy,
Blair Family Reynolds, Minnie B. (Minnie Blanche Blair)
David Blair and his family emigrated
from Scotland, lived two years in Northern Ireland, and then in 1720
immigrated to America, settling in Worcester County, Massachusetts. His
grandson, James Blair a "Minute Man" in the Revolutionary War,
was born at Hardwicke, Massachusetts, in 1748. He married twice and was
the father of ten children. Descendants listed lived in New York, Iowa,
Kansas, Illinois and elsewhere.

archives. The first was established in 1986 at the Kentucky Historical
Society Library in Frankfort, kentucky. The second repository was
established at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City in 1990. The

Blair, Byron O.
Alexander Blair (1716-1798), son of
John Blair of Armagh, Ulster, Northern Ireland, immigrated to America.
He married Elizabeth Cochran in 1753 and settled near Lancaster,
Pennsylvania. In 1784 they moved near Paris, Kentucky. Descendants lived
in Kentucky, Iowa, Kansas, Ohio,and elsewhere.

Andrew Blair lived on the Mason Dixon
line about 1790, in the western Maryland and southern Pennsylvania
valley named after him. Information on many of his descendants as well
as other families who lived in the Valley is given in this volume which

Blair and Sarah Morgan who were married sometime prior to 1750 in
Pennsylvania. They later lived in Viriginia and Burke County, North
Carolina. Colbert died in 1805. His descendants lived in North Carolina,
South Carolina, Pennsylvania, New York, and elsewhere.

Short historical sketch of the
original organization of the Blair Society for Genealogical Research in
1925. The organization disbanded in 1931 but was reorganized in 1982
after the old records were found. Historical notes on these
organizations are included.

The
History of the Blair, Banister and Braxton Families before and after the
Revolution : with a brief sketch of their descendants
Horner, Frederick, b. 1828
James Blair (d.1748) moved from
Scotland to England, and immigrated to Henrico County, Virginia, later
moving to Jamestown and then to Williamsburg, Virginia, whree he founded
William and Mary College. John Banister (d.1787) was the son of John
Banister the famous English botanist who had immigrated to Virginia;
John (d.1787) served with the colonists during the Revolutionary War,
married twice, and died in Dinwiddie County, Virginia. George Braxton
(fl.1720) immi- grated from England to King William County, Virginia;
one of his sons (Carter Braxton) signed the Declaration of Independence.
Descendants and relatives of these three immigrants lived in Virginia,
Kentucky, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Michigan,
Minnesota, California and elsewhere. Includes some ancestors and
descendants in Scotland, England and elsewhere.
