1860 Census

The 1860 census included the following categories. The official enumeration day was 1 June 1860.

  1. Dwelling- houses numbered in the order of visitation
  2. Families numbered in the order of visitation
  3. The Name of every Person whose usual place of abode on the first day of June, 1860, was in this family
  4. Age
  5. Sex
  6. Color (White, Black or Mulatto)
  7. Profession, Occupation or Trade of each Male Person over 15 years of age
  8. Value of Real Estate
  9. Value of Personal Estate
  10. Place of Birth Naming the State, Territory or County
  11. Married within the year
  12. Attended School within the year
  13. Persons over 20 years of age who cannot read & write
  14. Whether deaf and dumb, blind, insane, idiotic, pauper or convict

The extracts do not include items 6, 13, or 14. In addition to the 11 included items above, the extracts also include the Township, County and State where the individuals were residing, the date the census was taken, the page number in the census book, and my remarks concerning various entries. The index was search for variations in spelling. I've found Blairs who are listed in the index as BLAIS, BLAIN, KLAIR, BLAES, and BLAS. I now have a list of 17 variations of spelling I check.

Blairs Living in Vermont: This file contains all Blairs (and other family members) living in Vermont and listed in the 1860 Census. The entries are listed by County and Township.

Blairs Born in Vermont but Living Elsewhere: This file contains all Blairs born in Vermont, along with all Blair family members, living outside the state of Vermont. The entries are listed by Stae, County and Township.
